Web-based Storytelling: StoryMaps for Communicating Research

Story maps have taken the geospatial world by storm in recent years. Many organizations and individuals have turned to the scrollytelling format as a way to tell a longer story in a way that a single article or map cannot. This presentation will go into why story maps are a useful tool, and then how to plan and execute a complex one in a team setting. Along the way we will touch on some cartographic theory, design, and good practices for working on the web

Attendees will hear from Carl Churchill, a Woodwell Climate Research Center cartographer. The seminar will focus on StoryMaps for communicating research.

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is a continuation of ArcGIS StoryMaps workshop series, covering StoryMaps for communicating research. No GIS experience is required. Anyone who did not attend the earlier workshops is also welcome to attend.

Carl Churchill is a cartographer currently working for the Woodwell Climate Research Center, a Climate Science research foundation in Massachusetts. He has a masters in GIS from Arizona State University, and has been a professional cartographer since 2019.
