Join us for Scopus Training:  "Search, Alerts & Analysis" and "Author Identity and Metrics" - a librarian led review, demo and Q&A session for the three instructional modules designed to help faculty and students learn more about using Scopus.

Prior to attending this zoom event:

  • participants should prepare by using the module guides (links below) and viewing the quick, theme-based tutorials (2-3 minutes each) and brief exercises designed to practice the skills covered by the tutorial. 
  • Please bring your questions on these lessons and activities to review as a group

Module 1:  Topical Search, Alerts and Analysis 

  • Perform keyword searches & refine results
  • Save a search & set up alerts
  • Expand a search to capture other relevant results
    • View & search citations and cited references for a list of results
    • Find related documents based on shared references, authors and keywords
    • Find results from Mendeley Data (previously DataSearch)
  • Build & run an advanced search query using additional field code options
  • Analyze search results
  • Download and export search results to a citation manager

Module 2: Author Identity

  • Perform author searches and find documents associated with an author
  • Understand how author profiles are assigned and how to make corrections, if necessary
  • Assess an author's impact and monitor activity associated with their documents
  • Use author profile data on other platforms (ORCID, NIH and more)
  • Find authors working in a topical area

Module 3:  Metrics

  • Search for and extract article and journal-level metrics
  • Conduct comparative analytics and develop visualizations including citation/co-citation analysis
  • Identify research gaps in a field
