Average predicted scores from linear model, plotted as part of workshop.

Introduction to Linear Regression in Python

Linear regression is one of the most common statistical tests used in research, no matter what field you come from. In this workshop, we'll use Python to read data and write output, run a linear regression model, and plot the effect of race on the average COMPAS "Risk of Violence" decile score. The dataset comes from work conducted by ProPublica in 2016 which evaluated machine bias in a commercial product related to criminal sentencing. This workshop is intended for beginners and any users who are interested in learning more about linear modeling in Python.

This session will be offered in the Data Studios of the Main Library.

To get the most out of this workshop, participants should bring a laptop. The workshop can be completed online using Google Colab, but participants can optionally have Python installed locally.
