DS2F: Introduction to Web-Scraping in Python
In this workshop with Sabrina Nardin, participants will learn how to use the Python libraries “requests” and “beautiful soup” to scrape static web pages to collect online data. We will cover some of the most common challenges, and solutions, encountered in static web-scraping. This workshop is designed for beginners to intermediate programmers who have zero to little web-scraping experience. It focuses on learning how to use Python to scrape data that are accessible without using APIs. Some familiarity with Python is preferred but not required.
Sabrina Nardin is a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology. Her research lies at the crossroads of Political Sociology, Memory Studies, and Computational Social Science Methods. Her dissertation focuses on the collective memories of political violence in Italy.
